I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to my personal trainer, Josh Boyd, at Boyd Athletics, for the incredible impact he has had on my health and well-being. Working with him has been nothing short of transformative, and I can confidently say that at 58 years old I am in the best shape of my life, both physically and mentally, thanks to his guidance and expertise. When I first started my fitness journey, I was overwhelmed and unsure of where to begin. I had struggled with maintaining a consistent exercise routine and often found myself feeling discouraged by my lack of progress. However, when I was introduced to Josh four years ago, I knew I was in good hands. Not only is he highly educated with a Master’s degree in Kinesiology, his passion for fitness was infectious, and his dedication to helping me achieve my goals was evident from the start. One of the things that sets Josh apart is his personalized approach to training. He took the time to understand my unique fitness level and goals for my age, and any limitations I had (such as my lower back), and he designed a tailored workout plan that challenged me while still being achievable. Whether it was strength training, cardio, or flexibility exercises using a lacrosse ball, he always knew exactly what I needed to push myself to the next level. Not only did Josh help me improve my physical strength and endurance, but he also played a crucial role in improving my overall health and well-being. He educated me about the importance of proper nutrition and helped me make healthier choices both inside and outside the gym. The results of my annual physicals were proof of that. His approach to fitness ensured that I not only looked better but also felt better from the inside out. Thanks to Josh, I have achieved goals that I once thought were out of reach. Whether it's cardio, lifting heavier weights, or simply feeling more confident and energized in my daily life, I owe it all to him. He has been more than just a personal trainer to me; he has been a mentor, a motivator, and a true friend. I am forever grateful for Josh’s guidance and support, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to embark on their own fitness journey.

I've been working out with Josh for 6 years now, and at my heaviest, I was 265 pounds. Before meeting Josh, I followed online workouts like P90x and influencers for working out, but never found any luck losing any weight or understanding what exactly I was working on. I just thought if I followed the fit people online, it would work for me too. Little did I know that I needed someone with actual experience, education, motivation and dedication. I needed Josh. One of my best friends, who is also still a client of Josh's, introduced me to Josh back in 2019. When I first met him, he was very excited to get to know me and understand my goals for fitness. He then explained each workout we were doing and the main muscles that were being worked on. I've never seen someone with that much knowledge without having to google anything. In that first session, he never made me want to quit and somehow knew my limits before I even knew them. Ever since that day, I knew what a good personal trainer looked like. Josh has taught me the importance of training and why working out is important. It's always interesting when he shares why we are doing the exercises we are for the day and what muscles work with each other to get the perfect burn. My life has changed for the better since training with Josh. I've lost 50 pounds and over 10 percent body fat and am the healthiest I've ever been. Josh has also always been helpful when it comes to nutrition as well. He provided a formula for me to use to calculate the perfect macros when dieting to help me lose weight, but also gain muscle. Josh's wife Sarah is also a registered dietitian and has been helping me with recipes that are all natural and delicious. Long story short, it's been 6 years and Josh has become my personal trainer and someone I can call a friend. If you decide to train with Josh, you can bet that you'll find someone that cares about you, loves what he does, and will make you the best version of you that you've ever seen.

"I started training with Josh because I had recurring back pain challenges—and they were at times debilitating and cramp level intensity—that needed to be addressed by means other than medications or various massage/manipulation therapies. Also, my increased awareness of the strength component of fitness, especially in the context of aging, presented the challenge of how to achieve that essential kind of fitness in a time constrained schedule. Well, this is prior to Josh’s role as an independent athletic trainer, but I joined a Gold’s Gym to address the strength component of fitness, and upon joining, I was upsold to have a personal trainer, and Josh was assigned to me. This, quite frankly, was among the best things to happen in my life. I worked with Josh at Gold’s for a time, then when he decided to become an independent athletic trainer via his own business, I decided to continue with him since things were already working out so well.
There are numerous little things and some big things. As far as little things, my assumptions about the nature and kind of exercises needed to address things like my back issues needed to be revised; Josh was there to introduce exercises and stretching activities that I could have never imagined being of the sort to address my issues. As far as the bigger takeaway, Josh helped me reach and extend my limits in what I could accomplish. I don’t closely track the weightlifting progress in terms of quantitative measures (Josh handles those details), but for my current back squats and deadlifts, the plate assortment now looks like a Christmas tree, as opposed to fewer smaller plates of a single color. On the practical side, energy to engage in and ability to conduct daily life activities has markedly improved. I’m sure my general health and lifespan and healthspan has improved. Oh, and my wife now admires my physique, and that can have a lifestyle impact, if you know what I mean.
If you have the desire to work hard, then I would highly recommend Josh. Make no mistake, Josh is the kind of trainer who seeks to find the exercise limits of his clients, but not in such a way as to risk injury. Josh’s evidence based expertise is backed up by his extensive and cutting edge formal training that allows him to tailor a mix of exercises of varying volume and resistance to best address clients fitness requirements. Additionally, Josh is not just a fitness adviser/motivator for the session exercises at hand; he readily offers great advice for at home exercises for the client and client’s loved ones. In fact, he’s a great conversationalists about life. "
